Richard Carr, M.ED, L.C. M.H.C

With over twenty five years in a variety of therapy settings, I have a depth of knowledge and experience to offer my clients. I am a psychodynamically trained therapist and am also well versed in cognitive behavioral techniques and family systems theory. Much of my focus in therapy is interpersonally based since so much of our sense of well being is derived from how we see ourselves in context with others and the level of satisfaction or distress within those relationships.

I have worked as a supervisor and director of both adult and child mental health programs along with my therapy work in private practice. I specialize in working with adults and teens, with an increased emphasis on working with couples. In addition I work with latency age children with anxiety disorders or attentional issues. Two areas of interest and specialization are working with clients with complicated medical issues or dually diagnosed with substance abuse issues.

Thomas McCormack, MSW,  L.I.C.S.W.

Since 1970 I have worked in various clinical settings with children, adolescents and adults. My experience includes in-patient treatment, out-patient psychotherapy and therapeutic educational programs. I received my formal training in 1978 at Smith College School of Clinical Social Work. I was trained in a psychodynamic model but over the years my orientation has shifted to incorporate a number of theoretical approaches to treatment. In the context of a therapeutic relationship I work with clients to resolve emotional conflicts that arise as a result of family history and childhood issues, personal life choices and developmental challenges.

I work with pre-school and elementary aged children, adolescents, adults, and couples. I have a specialization in working with children with Development and Attention Deficit Disorders. I have strong interest in working with men’s issues and couples who are struggling with communication and intimacy issues in their relationship.

Meghan Sjurson-Rich, MA, L.C.M.H.C

I have worked in the field of psychotherapy and mental health for over 20 years. I am a psychodynamically trained developmentalist. Attention is paid to the emotional, physical, social, behavioral and spiritual dimensions of each person, couple and family. This requires that our relationship be first established in trust and that there exists a mutual desire for growth and wellbeing. Success in therapy is achieved by building upon strengths and talents already present as well as an application of specific skills and tools learned. I specialize in working with adults, couples, families, teens and children.

Rebecca Varner, MSW,  L.I.C.S.W

Ms. Varner’s experience spans many years of work in various clinical settings, providing mental health services for children, adolescents, adults and families. She has served clients in child guidance clinics, short and long term in-patient psychiatry units, schools, out-patient mental health clinics and in private practice for over 20 years. In 1984 she joined the staff at the psychiatric unit of Portsmouth Hospital, and later assisted with the opening of the Portsmouth Pavilion in 1986, becoming it’s first Director of Social Work. She received her M.S.W. in 1980 from Smith College School for Social Work where the training was primarily psychodynamic in focus. Since that time she has also studied Self-Psychology and Relational theory, along with Family Systems. Presently, she draws from broad theoretical frameworks in her work with adolescents, adults and couples in order to best assess and evaluate a client’s needs and to collaborate with them in providing clinical services that help to enhance their close relationships, and to develop skills that improve their sense of connection and well being in all facets of their lives.
